Strict Field Audits Ensure Quality Products

Strict Field Audits Ensure Quality Products

Before raw ingredients even reach our manufacturing facility they’ve already been tested many times to confirm their quality, purity, and potency. Several times a year, our Quality Assurance (QA) team travels to destinations around the world to visit Synergy WorldWide/Nature’s Sunshine ingredient vendors for routine audits. This is, of course, after the vendor has undergone a meticulous selection process to evaluate their processes and procedures. The fact that our QA team conducts regular vendor audits, physically visiting the sites where our ingredients are harvested or produced, sets us apart.

Vendor Audits

The vendor selection process begins in Purchasing. If a new Synergy product calls for never-before-used ingredients, experts from our Purchasing department search for vendor candidates around the world. Once a vendor passes an initial round of screening, the QA team then works with Research and Development to perform an on-site audit of the new vendor. New vendors must be audited before Synergy uses any of their materials, while existing vendors are audited every 2-3 years. Today, many of the company’s preferred vendors have been supplying raw materials to Nature’s Sunshine since the 1970s. Risk assessments based on country, material, and supplier, are conducted every year and play a part in deciding which existing vendors are due to be audited.

When we begin inspecting a vendor’s facility (or farm, orchard, plantation, etc.) we make sure that they follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) — a system that was created to minimize the risk of any pharmaceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product. Synergy products are also tested and manufactured following GMP requirements.

On-Site Inspections

A typical inspection begins with Synergy QA experts overseeing every step through which a particular raw material will undergo. During this process, all of the on-site facilities are meticulously evaluated, including the bathrooms where sanitation items like soap and hot water is confirmed to be available. Vendors without access to hot water for proper employee hygiene immediately fail. This is just one example of our strict standards against which a vendor is evaluated.

The vendor’s on-site quality control areas and practices are evaluated next. This way, Synergy is able to ensure that the vendor’s quality processes match our own. Following this evaluation comes the most time-consuming part of vendor audits: documentation assessment. Our QA team asks for random sanitation, quality control, specification, stability, pest control, GMP training, employee training, calibration, validation, environmental micro monitoring, change control, and recall procedure documents, all to ensure that the vendor is maintaining consistent, clean, and safe processes.

In addition to information about the raw materials, our team speaks to the vendor about their green initiatives. What are they doing to be eco-friendly? What do they do with hazardous waste? How do they maximize their energy efficiency? How do they recycle? Are they involved in any sustainability projects? Synergy prefers to partner with and support suppliers who are passionate about doing their part in preserving the earth.

The investment into field audits and all of our QA procedures is made year after year to solidify our reputation as the premier provider of dependable, effective products that synergistically combine science and nature. Nothing but excellence will do when it comes to the products you trust from Synergy.

5 Reasons You Need the Outdoors

5 Reasons You Need the Outdoors

The outdoors are calling! It’s the perfect time of the year to get outside and enjoy the beauty around you. Did you know that simply spending time in nature is actually beneficial to your mental and physical health?

1. Improved Memory and Concentration

There’s something about fresh air and an open landscape that does the brain good. Here’s proof: In a study conducted by the University of Michigan, a group of students was issued a memory test and then split into two groups upon completing the test. Both groups went for a walk, one group through a forest and the other group through a city. After the walk, they took the memory test again. Those who walked through the forest scored higher on the test than those who didn’t.

2. Restored Energy

Researchers call the occasional brain fogs you experience “mental fatigue.” You know, the feeling you get when you completely forget your train of thought. Exposing your mind to natural environments can have a restorative effect on mental energy and focus. Additionally, there have been studies suggesting that experiencing natural beauty can elicit feelings of awe and can be a quick way to provide a mental boost. Bring a pack of e9 along with you for an extra boost of naturally derived energy.

3. Relief from Daily Stress

Countless studies have been performed to prove that spending time in nature, even looking at scenes of nature from a window, lowers levels of cortisol—the “stress hormone.” Many of these studies have noticed that in connection with stress reduction, spending time in the outdoors cultivates a positive attitude and mindfulness. As naturalist John Burroughs said, “I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.”

4. Boosted Immune System

A 2010 study conducted in Japan asked a group of individuals to camp outside for three days and two nights. Researchers discovered that white blood cell activity increased, resulting in white blood cell production. These types of cells kill illnesses, such as the cold and flu viruses, and other common infections. Add in your daily dose of Mistica and head outside!

5. Improved Mental Health

Globally, about 350 million people struggle with depression and one in three people deal with anxiety. Scientists at Stanford University published a study in Proceeding of the National Academy of Science that showed that those who walked in a natural setting, as opposed to an urban setting, had decreased activity in the subgenual prefrontal cortex, a region of the brain that focuses repeatedly on negative emotions. Many medical professionals are now prescribing nature therapy as part of their mental health regimens.

The benefits of spending time outdoors are overwhelming and life altering, so put on your hiking shoes and head up a steep grade, go birdwatching, take a dip in a lake, or relax at a campground with family and friends. It doesn’t matter what activity you choose, just make sure to take advantage of the warm seasons and claim the natural benefits the great outdoors has to offer.

How does Synergy carry out its mission to provide pure and potent natural products that deliver proven, predictable, and repeatable results? Watch the videos below for an inside look at what sets Synergy apart.

Quality Formulations

We’re committed to understanding how supplements work at a molecular level. Our team of scientists and medical doctors create new, safe, and effective Synergy formulations by focusing on a specific wellness concern and then researching the underlying molecular mechanisms. Clinical studies are conducted to verify efficacy and product safety. That’s how synergy consistently creates unique products you can’t get anywhere else.

Quality Self Manufacturing

In a marketplace where 85% of all products are manufactured by third-party suppliers, Synergy proudly produces our products ourselves so we know they’re made right. We maintain nutrient integrity by keeping tight control of every ingredient from the moment we bring it into our facility. We conduct thorough analysis to ensure ingredients (and finished products) are free of heavy metals, pesticides, dirt, and other fillers that could potentially contaminate natural products.

Test Method Excellence

Over a dozen of the testing methods created by our in-house laboratory staff have been presented at national scientific conferences, and featured in leading peer-reviewed journals. Our innovative team of scientists, medical doctors, and PhDs has also been asked to participate in the creation of testing method validations for the prestigious Association of Official Analytical Chemists.

Finding the Finest Herbs

Synergy will always be committed to searching the world for the finest herbs provided by the most trusted suppliers. Only a select few can measure up to our high standards for purity, quality, and eco-friendly harvesting techniques. We use only the highest quality herbs from the most reputable growers on a season-to-season basis.

At Synergy, we’re fully committed to helping you live the healthiest life possible with innovative, potent, and pure products that produce results. The research and testing carried out in the Hughes Center and our quality in-house manufacturing are what make Synergy second to none.
